Is_Land, August 2015 - ongoing

A multistep research / creation / exhibition project based on a comparative analysis between the remotest inhabited island in the world, Tristan da Cunha, and other islands with unique features.

Transient [inspired by Turkana], 2014
Mixed media body of work

The work I have developed for the past years is based on the space/place dialectic, and is highly influenced by architecture. As acknowledging my dependence to these concepts, I opted to challenge my creative practice by rethinking space in the absence of permanent constructions.

Transient [inspired by Turkana] showcases a selection of work created after living and learning from the Turkana nomads (from northwest Kenya) for over two months. Through this body of work I intend to present an insight towards the Turkana culture and to pose my perspective upon mobility, ownership, and private space.

I created the work presented in this exhibition through three one-month Artist in Residency programs. Special thanks to Kuona Trust (Nairobi, Kenya), Nafasi Art Space (Dar es Salaam, Tanzania), and Tafaria Foundation (Aberdares, Kenya).

Memory of this place, 2012
Mixed media installation

Following the trace remains found in the floor of an old abandoned building, I projected plastic vertical membrane-like walls that corresponded to what might have once been a possible past architecture. The thinness of the material allowed natural light to be projected through the layered construction, creating ethereal inner rooms that subtly rippled and undulated as the visitor wandered through them.

Mi Taller, 2012
Site-specific architectural intervention

Embracing my entire studio as the setting of my work, in this architectural intervention I shifted the given space by constructing curved walls that follow the pattern of existing ones (color, material, height). The piece interferes the viewer’s space, generating a dialogue between the construction and the body.

Between Walls, 2012
Site-specific installation

I placed mirrors on the risers of a staircase corridor constrained between to massive buildings. A new open perspective was created in the solid volume, transforming the way the pedestrian interacted with this transition space.

Space Studies and Installations, 2011 - 2012

Selection of recent projects through which I explore diverse spatial concerns.

These selection of works serves as an overview of my ongoing spatial studies, through which I intend to interfere specific locations using simple materials and processes.

Hand painted on Glass, 2009 - 2010
Selection of work depicting hand painted architectural compositions on glass.

Through the juxtaposition of digital imagery taken from real visited locations, from unseen cities, and from imaginary places, I painted on glass-canvases fictitious urban sceneries to then expose the glass to diverse caloric treatments. With this I created new approximations towards the studied structures and developed different spatial relationships within the represented architecture.

Glass Explorations, 2006 - 2013
Selected pieces from my ongoing explorations on glass

In 2006 I began to experiment with glass as an undergraduate student in Chile. Its' unique optic qualities and intrinsic fragility made of this material the base of my artistic endeavor for several years  My interest and obsession in it took me from an isolated setting and experimental methodology to a formal academic approximation, being this learning experience necessary for the development of my conceptual concerns and technical specialization.
I can affirm that all my current projects are directly informed by the language of glass and that I continue to enjoy its singular properties.
